My name is Vladimir Shifrin -- I'm a Vinyl Tango DJ based in New York, USA. I started DJing tango from 2004 to 2012 as a digital (laptop) DJ while also dancing Argentine tango.
Last year, a trip to Buenos Aires rekindled my passion for DJing in a completely new way. Experiencing tango as it had been shared for generations — through vinyl — showed me that vinyl has a warmth, depth, and presence that makes the experience feel more intimate and alive. When I returned to New York, I decided to come back to DJing with an exclusive focus on vinyl. Since then, I've been playing at milongas in New York and have been invited to DJ at various festivals.
As both a longtime tango dancer and a vinyl DJ, I approach every milonga from the dancer's perspective. I carefully shape each tanda with attention to rhythm, energy, and musical flow, always thinking about the people on the dance floor. My vinyl sets celebrate the richness of the Golden Age and Post-Golden Age of Tango, offering a warm, authentic sound that captures the atmosphere and emotion of a live orchestra.
The First VINYL Tango DJ in New York!
For Vladimir, every vinyl record is a small piece of Buenos Aires history.
Vinyl Tango is more than dancing, more than connection — it is a journey. A journey to the past, to the Buenos Aires of the Golden Age.
